Údarás na Gaeltachta Achieved a 17% Reduction in Electricity Consumption in a Ten Month Period Using Enerit's Energy Management Bureau.
Co Galway, Ireland - 17 June 2009, Údarás na Gaeltachta achieved a 17% reduction in electricity consumption in a ten month period. These energy savings were achieved as part of an overall programme to reduce energy consumption by 12% over a three-year period.
Údarás are achieving these savings in 4 buildings in Donegal, Galway and Kerry using an energy management bureau service part funded by Sustainable Energy Ireland. This service uses a best practice approach to energy management to achieve these savings. The approach is based on new Irish/European standards (IS 393/EN 16001) and the SEI Energy Map technique. The service is supported by internet based software developed by Enerit.
A key success factor is the proper management of numerous no-cost or low-cost energy saving actions. The specially designed internet based energy management bureau has ensured very strict management of these actions so that they are completed quickly and effectively. In the first 4 months, 159 actions were agreed and 120 of these actions completed by 20 people in the 4 buildings.
The energy bureau software guarantees energy team meetings are highly effective because the latest performance results and actions can be viewed quickly online during the meetings. All staff can view their buildings performance in league table format, enter energy saving suggestions online. League tables allow staff to compare their building performance to others.
"The results have been excellent so far and the team will now focus on beating the three-year target in these buildings by a long way.", commented Mike Brogan, Project Manager Enerit. "The next steps are to focus on thermal energy reduction and to replicate these results for the 11 buildings recently added to the bureau".
